Explore Pomquet Beach Provincial Park just 1 km away, where you can enjoy the Acadian Trails for hiking, cross-country skiing, and snowshoeing. Nearby, Chez Deslauriers offers an authentic Acadian heritage experience with a charming tea room. Plus, discover several local beaches within a short drive. For adrenaline-fueled excitement, head to Riverside International Speedway (25kms) for pro stock car racing, live entertainment and drinks. Alternatively, venture to Keppoch Mountain (25 kms) for hiking trails, mountain biking, concerts, and family-friendly activities like snowshoeing and sledding.

Pomquet Beach Provincial Park

St. George's Bay

Pomquet Beach Provincial Park is conveniently perched in the middle of St. George’s Bay. This U-shaped outlet from the Gulf of St. Lawrence is sheltered away from cold ocean currents creating some of the warmest waters Nova Scotia has to offer. Its unique coast structure and water temperature is perfect for swimming, snorkeling, kayaking, scuba diving as well as all other water sports and activities. This 3 km supervised beach is wheelchair-accessible. A new Mobi-Mat® was installed in 2018 along with the addition of a Mobi-Chair® lightweight floating beach wheelchair. Other park features include boardwalks, interpretive display, change house, flush toilets, walking trails all around and some of the best examples of dune succession

Pomquet Acadian Walking and Dune Trails

This 6km coastal and inland multi-use trail system is great for hiking, cross country skiing and snowshoeing.

The trial system includes 3 stacked loops and 1km linear coastal trail overlooking the beautiful views of St. George's Bay.


You can access the Pomquet Dune Trails approximately 1km from your Dome.

Follow the trial to the left located just before the Pomquet Beach Parking Lot and see fantastic views of sand dunes and dune succession. On this route you will also see a view of the Domes that can't be seen from anywhere else besides inside the trail :)


Chez Delauriers Heritage Home and Venue

The Chez Deslauriers property is located on a coastal rise in Monk's Head with commanding views of St. George's Bay, Pomquet Beach and Cape Breton in the distance. The property includes a heritage home (converted to a tearoom), an interpretive centre, and an outdoor stage. A 6 km coastal and inland walking trail (Pomquet Acadian Trails) is located directly to the north of the property.The tearoom is host to traditional Acadian lunches each Friday during the summer months (July and August) and two Lobster Roll Dinners in August and September.The Interpretive Centre outlines the history of Pomquet from its geological origins, to its ecology and its first inhabitants (the Mi'kmaq), to its settlement by Acadians and its evolution as a community. The outdoor stage, attached to the Interpretive Centre, provides a venue for local entertainment.

Keppoch Mountain

The Keppoch Mountain offers a wide range of activities for the outdoor enthusiast and is opened 365 days a year! Snow shoes and cross country skies for rent for all ages, multi-use trail systems for mountain biking all year round, cross country and enduro race events, family fun days and 30 trails plus the old ski runs with spectacular views for hiking.

Riverside International Speedway

Established in 1969, this monumental racetrack is a staple in our community and is located only 25kms away from our domes. 

Riverside is host to many raceway events such as the famous IWK Super Race Weekend, which starts off with the Tailgate Party and leading to the IWK 250, what many consider the top stock car race in Canada. 

Other events include Henry’s AutoPro 100 and the East Coast Int’l Pro Stock Tour for the Auto World Sportsman Series, the Cross Roads Legends Tour and the Hot Rod Classics to name a few. 

With some pretty awesome newly added events to the schedule for 2023, the All Star Monster Truck Tour and the Dulux Allstar Street Stock!
